Reverend Henry Beard Delaney was born into slavery in Georgia. He would go on to become head of St. Augustine's School in Raleigh, North Carolina and a consecrated Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Church. Rev. Delaney was the father of Judge Hubert Delaney and the Delaney sisters, Dr. A. Elizabeth (Bessie) and Sarah (Sadie), along with 7 other children.
